Hello, please consider these options: Instead of ditching the ISS into the Ocean, re-purpose the ISS to sit flat on the moon. Do the necessary construction in space and land it on the moon as a base. Second, modify the necessary construction equipment to operate in space on the moon. Dig down under the surface and create chambers large enough to hold several Space shuttles to be used as a staging and repair area. Use the Shuttles to initially get the construction equipment up there and after construction on the base is complete, never bring them back here. Add Laser and Nuclear tipped Missiles to the Shuttles and now we have a space-based platform from which to monitor and deal with objects that threaten our planet. Include the Russians and the rest of the world in crewing this base and we also have a means of gaining the trust of some of our lesser friends. We have a means of doing this as we can tunnel through solid rock and create a totally self-contained base within solid rock (IE- Mt. Weather, Norad). The Shuttles would intercept the inbound objects and deal with them. The moon base would have a Radar and Telescopic capability. The Shuttles would launch horizontally using a runway as the gravity on the moon would allow this type of take off and landing. O2 and liquid O2 would be created on the moon thereby eliminating the need for resupply from home. Large elevators would carry the spacecraft up to and down from the surface. We would have a permanent prescense in space and on the moon. ]]>
